I finished at Rongotea about a week ago now, and since then I’ve been house sitting in Palmerston North. It’s a nice cosy and compact home situated in a cul-de-sac, in one of the quieter part of town. There seems to quite a few doggies in the street, but to be honest I very rarely hear them. Maybe the odd woof now and then, but overall they’re pretty quiet. I’m guessing having police officers living on this street might have something to do with it. 🙂
My housemates are two kitty cats. There’s Taika, a super friendly male tabby whom the homeowner got from the SPCA. And then there’s Pepi, a street (aka stray) cat who followed the homeowner home one day from the local dairy, and here she’s been living ever since. She’s certainly got the stray cat colour-scheme going on, with a bit of tortoiseshell and a bit of tabby and a bit of something else. Like Taika, she’s super friendly and quite enjoying being spoiled by her new housemate.
Taika and Pepi are pretty chilled and so they took a shine to me pretty much on day one, and they’ve both been camping with me at nights, as well. Both cats get on well with one another. Taika has a ginger mate called Larry who lives next door, and who pops over for a visit every so often.
It’s been pretty icy here lately but the home has a nice wood burner which has been getting some fair use since I’ve been here. The lounge is quite compact so it doesn’t take very long to heat it up. The lounge faces the north, so on clear days the room gets flooded with nice sunshine which helps to warm things up quite a bit.
All in all, it’s been a brilliant and relaxing stay thus far. I’m loving the cats, they’ve been such good company. I’m here for another three weeks or so and then it’s off to the next place.
