House Sitting In Rongotea – Second Visit

I arrived in the Manawatu yesterday for my next sit in Rongotea. This is my second stay on this particular property. I was here for around 6 weeks last year while the homeowners went on river cruises through Portugal, Egypt, and India. My visit is a bit shorter this time round as the owners have just popped over to Aussie to visit family. But I’m back here for about 5 weeks from September 19th because the owners are going to be doing a motorhome expedition around the coast of Western Australia.

It’s good to be back, I enjoyed my time here last year. It’s a nice comfy and warm house with all the mod-cons and a nice big free-standing wood burner. It’s a 4.5 hour drive further south from my last sit in Tokoroa but I actually find Rongotea considerably milder. They still get frosts here, but not the heavy lingering ones that Tokoroa has, and while the southerlies here can be nippy, they’re not the bone-numbing winds I experienced in Tokoroa.

Beryl (dog) and Iris (cat) seem to remember me from last time. There’re a couple mobs of beefies on the run-off block just around the corner of the road, but they take all of half an hour to shift and throw some hay to. Apart from that, there’re just 4 younger calves in the house paddock.
