This is my current house sit. It’s a nice big modern home situated in rural Onewhero, which is about a ten-minute drive south of Tuakau, and a twenty-minute drive south of Pukekohe. The house is north-facing and with double-glazing so it gets heaps(!) of winter sunshine to warm up the interior. You get a really nice view of the surrounding Onewhero countryside from the living area. This place actually reminds me of my Huirangi sit, minus the marble-like floor. I’m here for ten days and then it’s off to the Manawatu for seven weeks.
My house mate is an elderly cat who goes by the name of Monsieur Lapin (or Mr. Rabbit). I believe he’s eighteen years of age. He’s a nice friendly chap – we were mates pretty much from day one. His hearing is just about all gone, and he has a touch of arthritis and so he gets a drop of liquid medicine (Redipred) and a small amount of My Beau joint supplement with his breakfast each morning. Mind you, he’s surprisingly mobile and he likes to go outside and do a lap of the house a few times during the day.

August 29 2025 at 8:13 PMTo be honest, unless I’m focusing on the pets, I’m not really a fan of taking photos of the inside of my house sits. I feel like I’m kinda invading the homeowners’ privacy by doing that – it’s just something I’m not comfortable with. So I just stick to taking some photos of the exterior. And even then, I make sure nothing in the photos identifies either the property’s location or owners.
