My five-week stay in Kerepehi has drawn to a close. The owners have returned from their trip to Germany and I’m now on a brand new house sit. This one is a lifestyle block in Tauwhare, a district in rural Waikato and about 10 minutes north of Cambridge and 15 minutes west of Hamilton. I actually got offered this sit through a house sitting group on Facebook. I’m here for the long weekend (Matariki) and then I’m straight on to Taranaki again for another stay at Huirangi.
Nice, warm, and sunny house my current one. I have under my watch 4 dogs, 2 kitty cats, 16 chooks, and 7 Peking ducks.
The chooks live in the avacado orchard and have a good-sized space to run around in. The Peking ducks live around the pond with a heap of wild ones.
Pip is the eldest dog, an old labrador who just cruises around and looks for sunny spots outside to sleep in. Next is Jetta, an Alsatian who has a liking for chasing frisbees, and then there are Honey and Toffee who are a pair of Cavoodles (cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle). They’re both a bit barky if they think they can hear somebody coming up the drive but apart from that they’re pretty quiet. They get to live and sleep inside the house, while Pip and Jetta are limited to the garage.
All the dogs are really friendly and well-behaved, and they get on surprisingly well with each other and the two cats, Snow (who’s gone deaf with old age) and Kitty.
All in all, it’s a nice place and I certainly wouldn’t say no to coming back for a longer stay.

July 2 2025 at 10:27 AMWhat sort of frisbee is that? I’m guessing it wouldn’t be one of those standard plastic frisbees as the dog’s teeth would probably break it quite easily.

July 7 2025 at 1:02 PMIt’s a rubber frisbee. It holds its shape pretty good though it does fly a bit wonky at times. But it keeps Jetta happy. 🙂 You can buy them from the warehouse, and probably some other places as well.
