My current house sit sees me returned to Glen Murray for a second stay on the same rural property that I was looking after last month. It’s good to be back, I like it out here. It’s a nice quiet spot and the animals are all pretty low maintenance.
The flock of Damara sheep are co-grazing in the same paddocks as the horses Dolly and Cougar. Apart from twice-daily checks on everybody and their water and giving the horses their daily minerals, they’re all pretty well self-sufficient. Courtesy of a rainy January, the property has plenty of grass which is good to see, so the sheep and horses have heaps of tucker in front of them.
Chilli is such a cruisy dog. She spends most of her time relaxing in her favourite chair or the sofa, though she does like to tag along when I’m checking on the stock. She’s certainly well-named because Chilli basically just likes to chill. 🙂 And the chookies have a pretty sweet life free-ranging the whole property for most of the day.
This second stay is for a bit longer than my first visit. I’m here for about 10 days and then it’s a brief sojourn at Raetihi on my way down to a pair of sits in the Levin area. One of those is a new property while the other is a repeat from 2024.

March 10 2026 at 7:39 PMWas there many rabbits for Chilli to chase? I assume she liked chasing them. Most dogs do. 🙂

March 12 2026 at 9:45 AMThere were a few rabbits, but it was wild turkeys that she loved to chase. Little devil. 🙂
